Conservation areas in Cardiff: what is allowed?
Cardiff Council has 27 conservation areas, and many of them carry Article 4 Directions that control minor alterations such as replacing windows and doors, so a change that is simple elsewhere can need permission. Roath Park and Llandaff are two examples, so homes there need a check before any frames change.
An Article 4 Direction removes some permitted development rights. A window swap that needs no permission on an ordinary street can need planning consent inside one of these areas, and the council may ask for a design that closely matches the original. Listed buildings need listed building consent on top.
