What is a LEKA warm roof?

A LEKA warm roof is an insulated, lightweight solid roof system for conservatories, made in the UK by LEKA Systems and fitted in place of polycarbonate or glass, or on a new conservatory from the start. The system pairs a lightweight frame with insulated panels, and the room gets a proper ceiling inside.

LEKA quotes a U-value as low as 0.15 W/m2K for the roof. The U-value measures how much heat escapes through a surface, so a lower number means a room that holds its heat. In a conservatory the roof is the largest surface open to the sky, so its U-value has the biggest effect on how the room feels in winter.

LEKA also makes a separate system for building a whole new room. If you have no conservatory yet and want an extra room, look at the LEKA XI modular extension instead.

The short version
  • A LEKA roof swaps a see-through conservatory roof for a solid, insulated one.
  • LEKA Systems makes it in the UK, with a U-value as low as 0.15 W/m2K.
  • Existing conservatories can usually take one if the frame, dwarf wall and base pass a survey.
  • Building control normally needs to sign off the change, and Daimant tells you on the survey.
  • Daimant gives you a fixed written price after a free survey.

How does a warm roof stop a conservatory being too hot or too cold?

A warm roof stops a conservatory swinging between too hot and too cold by replacing thin polycarbonate or glass with an insulated solid cover, which cuts heat loss in winter and blocks the direct sun overhead in summer. The problem with an old roof is simple: it has almost no insulation.

Winter heat loss

Heat rises and is lost through a thin roof. You run a heater, the room warms up, and it cools again soon after you switch it off. An insulated roof keeps that heat in the room, so the conservatory stays at a usable temperature for longer.

Summer overheating

Sun through a clear or tinted roof heats the room faster than open doors can clear it. A solid roof shades the whole space overhead. Daylight still comes in through the side windows and through any roof lights you choose.

Glare, rain noise and condensation

Rain drumming on polycarbonate is loud, and glare makes screens hard to read. An insulated roof dampens both. The inside of the ceiling also stays at room temperature, so you see less condensation on cold mornings. Our guide on why conservatories overheat covers the other causes, including glazing and ventilation.

LEKA warm roof vs tiled roof vs glass or polycarbonate roof

A LEKA warm roof sits between a tiled roof and a glass or polycarbonate one: it insulates far better than glass or polycarbonate, weighs less than traditional tiles built on site, and still lets light in through roof lights. Here is how the four options compare.

OptionWeight on the frameInsulationLightBuilding control
LEKA warm roofLightweight systemU-value as low as 0.15 W/m2KSide windows plus any roof lights you chooseNormally needed when it replaces see-through glazing
Tiled roof built on siteHeaviest option, frame and base checked firstGood, depends on the buildSide windows plus roof windowsNormally needed
GlassModerateFar higher heat loss than insulated panelsMost lightConfirmed on your survey
PolycarbonateLightPoorHigh, with glareConfirmed on your survey

For a room you want to use every month of the year, we recommend the LEKA roof. It gives insulation close to a tiled roof without the weight, and the lighter load suits the frame of an existing conservatory. Glass suits you better if daylight matters more to you than winter comfort.

Can a LEKA roof go on my existing conservatory?

A LEKA roof can usually go on an existing conservatory if the frame, dwarf wall and base pass Daimant’s structural survey, as the new roof is carried by the structure you already have. The survey is free, and it tells you before you spend anything whether your conservatory is ready.

What the surveyor checks

  • Frame age and condition: uPVC frames need to be square and sound, with no splits at the corners.
  • Dwarf wall: the low brick wall should be free of cracks, damp and loose bricks.
  • Base: the floor and foundations should show no sign of sinking or movement.
  • Ring beam and house wall: the surveyor checks how the new roof will be fixed to the top of the frames and to your house.

When a rebuild is needed

A base that has moved, a cracked dwarf wall or badly bowed frames mean the conservatory needs work before any solid roof goes on. Sometimes a rebuild is the better answer. Our page on replacing an existing conservatory roof includes a checklist you can run through yourself before booking.

How is a LEKA roof fitted and how long does it take?

A LEKA roof is fitted in five stages, from a free survey through manufacture, strip out and fitting to the finish inside, and your surveyor gives you the timetable for your own job in writing before work starts. Days on site depend on the size of the roof and the interior finish you choose.

1

Free survey

We measure the conservatory, check the frame, dwarf wall and base, and give you a fixed written quote.

2

Manufacture

LEKA makes the roof to the measurements taken on your survey.

3

Strip out

Our fitters take off the old roof panels and glazing bars.

4

Fit and weatherproof

The new roof frame and insulated panels go on, and the guttering is connected.

5

Finish inside

The ceiling is finished and any lighting you chose, such as spotlights, is fitted.

What does a LEKA warm roof cost in Caerphilly and Cardiff?

A LEKA warm roof in Caerphilly or Cardiff is priced from a free survey, and Daimant gives you a fixed written quote for your conservatory, as the size, shape and interior finish all change the figure. You get one price in writing, with no obligation to go ahead.

For a national reference point, the Checkatrade conservatory cost guide (updated June 2026) puts a conservatory roof replacement at around £10,000. Your own quote depends on the points below.

What changes the priceWhy it matters
Size in square metresA bigger floor area needs more panels and framing
ShapeVictorian and P-shaped designs have more facets than a lean-to
Roof lights or glazed panelsEach one adds materials and fitting time
Interior finishCeiling finish and lighting choices vary
Frame or base workAny repairs found on the survey are added before the roof goes on

Does a warm roof need building regulations approval?

A warm roof that replaces a translucent polycarbonate or glass roof is normally treated as needing building control involvement in Wales, and Daimant tells you on the free survey whether your job needs sign-off. You find out before work starts, so there are no surprises when you come to sell.

The Welsh Government guidance on building regulations for conservatories says a conservatory is exempt when all of these apply:

  • It has an internal floor area under 30 m2.
  • It is separated from the house by external quality walls, doors or windows.
  • It has no fixed heating and no extension of the home heating system.
  • Its glazing and any electrics meet the regulations that apply to them.

Any new structural opening between the conservatory and the house needs approval, for example knocking through a wall to open the room up. Once building control signs the work off, it issues a completion certificate, which you keep with your house documents. Planning permission is a separate question, and our conservatory planning permission guide sets out the Welsh rules.

Frequently asked questions

Will a LEKA roof make my conservatory darker?

A solid roof lets in less light overhead than glass, and the side windows still bring in daylight. Roof lights or glazed panels add light where you want it, and your surveyor shows you where they can go on your conservatory.

Can a lean-to conservatory have a LEKA roof?

Yes. LEKA roofs are made for lean-to, Victorian, Edwardian and P-shaped conservatories. The survey confirms that your frame and base can carry the new roof.

What guarantee comes with a LEKA roof from Daimant?

Daimant’s work carries a 10-year guarantee, and the guarantee is insurance-backed. Your written quote sets out what it covers.

Is Daimant the same firm as Diamond Windows or Diamant Doors?

People sometimes search for us as Diamond Windows or Diamant Doors. Daimant is the family-run window, door and conservatory installer based in Caerphilly, on 029 2002 3280.

Can I add a radiator once the new roof is on?

Adding fixed heating, or extending your home heating system into the conservatory, affects its exemption from building regulations in Wales. Tell your surveyor at the start and we will explain what approval that brings.
